Along my High School teaching practice experience, I lived many interesting things. It consisted on being at a High School institution for nine weeks which are divided into one for observation, and the other eight for teaching in that level.
During the observation week, I saw my tutor’s way of teaching, and it was surprising as he has a very peculiar way to teach. He uses different activities through readings which are scramble articles and students have to unscramble them, and then he asks students about it. I learned that it helps improve reading skills and practice pronunciation. The last day of the observation week, I was told the contents I was going to develop with students, so I began looking for information about the factors that affect it. After we discussed about that, we began giving opinios, and introducing the new topics. I began working with a group of students. The group was very nice; students liked participating, playing, discovering, asking, creating, and competing against others. I knew them somehow, their likes, dislikes, and I realized the activities that worked and didn’t work with them. I could work well with them for they cooperated with my job and activities provided that they are very active.

I also had the opportunity to work completely with them as I was in charge of the evaluated activities they had to develop for the third trimester.
The first homework assignment they had was a recipe; it was evaluated by the teacher. Then I continued working with, the first activity they did with me was a “Quiz” about “Gerunds as subject” and “the ING form.” They got good grades which showed me they had understood the topic; nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that was what students knew.

After that, we started studying “The Modal Should,” and the second evaluation was a ten-line article about whales using the modal “Should” affirmative and negative forms in order to give pieces of advice and some recommendations to protect whales and the environment as a whole. The third activity was another “Quiz” about “The Modal Should” in both ways negative and affirmative. The results were acceptable, but some of them didn’t take it as they weren’t in that class. Finally they were assigned to give a three-minute speech about recommendations for the environment, and the final test. I have just to add that at the end I got good results; even though, not everybody passed.
This experience was truly meaningful for me and my own training as an English teacher.

I can say that I learned many important and necessary aspects about being a teacher; this was supported from my teachers including the ones who are teaching me right now, some others who taught me before, and others to whom I went for help and advices to improve or do things better.
Another characteristic I gained much better was to learn to listen to my students’ opinions, complains, advices and experiences. I didn’t know how important this teacher’s aspect is because it helps make learning easier for students and teaching for teachers as well. It also provides the teacher tools to recognize the things that are weather working; furthermore, it’s useful to know what the teacher should change to enhance the previous learning and guarantee the future learning in students. More important even is that the teacher is aware of students are the priority in the teaching-learning process.

Continue talking about this experience, I looked up some information to
teach and provide students actual and recent facts to show them what we
should and shouldn’t do in our daily lives, which was related to the
topic we were studying. Now, I know how to behave, work, and share with
students from that level; though, I know that every single student is
entirely different.

I’m truthfully proud of the job I did in
this practice as I accomplished what my tutor expected from me. I could
see it in evaluation sheets where he wrote details about my attitude
towards students, the activities, the duties, responsibility; what’s
more, he liked my job. It was something that inspired me to keep working
hard for being better and getting excellent results from my own
efforts. He told several times that teachers should work in the way I
have been trained in order to motivate students to like and learn
English and that was something encouraging for me. I can mention one of
his special commentaries which says that “My enthusiasm in the class not
only inspires his learners but also his reflections and attitudes
towards the teaching of English,” it means I was doing as expected.
In my own opinion, I can say that I learned enjoying teaching and sharing many things with my students and my tutor. I’m really thankful for this opportunity because it taught me a lot of things I’m sure they are going to be useful in my future performances.

I am sure I am going to find a job in which I will have the opportunity to put into practice almost everything I have learnt and experienced through this one year training and the two teaching practices I did. I hope I will keep my attitude towards my job, performance and attitude to insure success on it and student’s learning. I would like to work anywhere I get a job opportunity, and do my best to become an excellent and effective teacher. I want the teaching English process to be innovative. I want to teach English in a very funny and interested way to demonstrate students that English can be learned by getting fun and discovering it little by little until we like studying it and we want to know more about. I will try to develop a “Critical Thinking” in my students as it is an important aspect for our lives, besides it’s something necessary to make good personal and work decisions.
